2021 Summer Institute Meeting Portal

The OSAED Summer Institute provides an opportunity to for state association executives to network, inform, and inspire with programming and activities uniquely designed to address educational leadership and association management issues from a state school board association perspective.

COVID Measurers
NSBA continues to track the current surge of COVID cases for unvaccinated individuals.  Utah currently is listed as #9 on the hot spot list. Currently the state of Utah does not have a state-wide mask mandate in place. I had a conversation with the team at the Lodges at Deer Valley Resort regarding their current protocols and what protocols we wanted in place. The resort staff has indicated about 95% of their staff are vaccinated and tend towards the side of being masked in public.

In order to help limit our engagement with other guests at the resort, meal events such as family breakfast, and lunch for meeting attendees will be provided daily. Monday is buffet, Tuesday and Wednesday will be box lunches outside in a private area.
In the meeting rooms:
• seating at each table will be limited to no more than 5 attendees,
• providing hand sanitizer throughout the meeting space,
• utilizing water stations and bottled water vs. water on table, and
• wiping down surfaces between presentations.

We encourage everyone to bring masks with you to help limit your exposure to others while in the public areas of the resort, and to wear during the meeting if you choose.

Ground Transportation

As a reminder, if you have not already done so, please be sure to contact Canyon Transportation to make your shuttle reservations from/to the Salt Lake City Int. Airport.  The resort is about 40 minutes from the Salt Lake City International Airport.  You can go online to Canyon Transport to make your shuttle reservations to the resort.  They are offering NSBA members a 25% discount on transportation through our website, Airport Express Shuttle - Salt Lake City Transportation - Canyon Transport  and enter the discount code: NSBA - Enter the code into the box below our “Make a Reservation” tool that says, “Enter Group ID/Discount Code”.

Meeting Attire

Please note that the meeting attire is business casual; suit jackets and ties are not needed for men, but may be required for some local upscale restaurant. The average temperature in Park City during this time averages mid-80s during the daytime and around mid- to high-50-60s in the evening. Meeting participants may wish to bring a light jacket, wrap, or sweater for sessions taking place in the hotel—temperatures in hotel meeting rooms can tend to be on the cool side.

Things To Do in Park City
There are a number of things to do in and around Park City while you are there.  Please visit the Visit Park City Chamber website for a list of possibilities.

Diversity/Equity/Inclusion/Access – Training for Our School Boards. Association Strategies to Engage All School Districts.
The work cannot live in one person’s role; instead, a school must cultivate leadership among students, faculty, staff, trustees, and parents and guardians to ensure broad-based commitment to strengthen the school community.

The work needs to reside at the governance level of a school district to create accountability and commitment to follow through and to implement strong, actionable plans, as well as clear messaging to the community about the value and importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Hear how state associations are engaging their members around this important issue.
