COSA’s 2025 Fall School Law Seminar provided school lawyers with timely, valuable resources to make informed decisions for their districts. This seminar offered four afternoons of online sessions allowing attendees to customize their professional development by purchasing daily sessions on topics of interest or the entire conference. Attendees may earn up to 12 Continuing Legal Education credits, including 1 hour of Ethics in most states.

COSA is dedicated to providing high-quality continuing legal education (CLE) sessions to attorneys. We established a financial hardship policy for attorneys who are unable to participate due to financial reasons but are interested in our course offerings. Please submit your request according to the guidelines noted on the Financial Hardship form and contact COSA’s Director if there are questions.

Federal Regulations update: School Operations

In this annual event NSBA’s legal team will provide an update on the most recent changes from the U.S. Supreme Court’s last term and changes in federal law and federal agency rules. Among other things, they will address Supreme Court holdings in Loper Bright Enterprises and Muldrow; the new Pregnancy Workers Fairness Act and the accompanying changes in Title IX and the FLSA in relation to the law; Title IX; the new FLSA rule that relates to overtime for highly compensated individuals; and the change in the ADA regarding website accessibility. (May qualify as 60 minutes of Ethics in most states)

Title IX Redux: How the New Regulations Change Policy and Practice in Public Schools

Experienced COSA attorneys Linda Yoder of Shipman & Goodwin in Hartford, CT, and David Noland of Tharrington Smith in Raleigh, NC, discussed the new regulations and explained how they differ from the last round issued in 2020.
