Top Five Pet Dog Breeds With Long Lifespans

We bring home any dog breed that we love and which suits our living situation, needs, and routine. Seldom do we think of the lifespan of the breed, as it grows up and grows into a major part of our life? We would want our beloved pet dog to become our companion for a whole lifetime, but sadly dogs have a smaller lifespan than us, and we have to go through the process of saying goodbye to our dog. If you have a support dog (prescribed through an ESA letter) then parting from your beloved dog can harm your mental state leaving you in more need of support.

Every dog type has a different lifespan specific to its breed, and many dogs exceed this lifespan when you provide them with proper exercise, a healthy diet, and health care. The lifespan of dogs usually shortens with the breed’s size, the larger the breed in size the lower its life-expectancy. Giant dog breeds and larger dogs have thus an average lifespan of around 8 years, while toy group breeds have an average lifespan of between 14 to 16.

One would naturally want a pet dog that lives long and becomes part of the family from puppyhood to seniorhood. Dogs who depart early leave behind devastated pet parents who can’t think about a life without their beloved pets. Many prospective parents, therefore, try to bring home a pet animal that will be with them for the longest time. This means having a pet animal that is smaller in size and taking special care of your pet’s health. It includes providing a high-quality diet, grooming it regularly, and getting it checked routinely.

Here is a list of various pet animals that have a longer lifespan and whose lifespan can be extended further with extra care.

You will need to be careful with your pet dog as it gets into the senior years, as they tend to develop back problems which can exacerbate when not careful with the diet and exercise.
