    Justice Department Awards Millions in Grants Under STOP School Violence Act
    The Department of Justice recently announced nearly $126 million in funding to advance school safety under the STOP School Violence Act. The grants will help institute safety measures in and around primary and secondary schools, support school violence prevention efforts, provide training to school personnel and students, and implement evidence-based threat assessments.

    2022 School Safety Webinar Series Launching in January
    The Federal School Safety Clearinghouse will launch the 2022 School Safety Webinar Series in January, with monthly events designed to address current and emerging school safety risks and threats facing the K-12 academic community. The series kicks off with the first session on January 20.

    CDC Expands Booster Shot Eligibility to 12-15 Year Olds
    The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that adolescents age 12 to 17 years old should receive a booster shot 5 months after their initial Pfizer-BioNTech vaccination series.

    Funding Opportunities for Your Community in 2022 (Jan. 19, 2022) – This webinar is the first of two trainings that will help prospective applicants find funding opportunities that address their needs. In this webinar, attendees will learn the primary initiatives the DOJ's Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) plans to fund in 2022, along with eligibility requirements and estimated funding amounts.

    COVID-19 Guidance and Mental Health Resources for K-12 Schools (Jan. 20, 2022) – The first event in the Federal School Safety Clearinghouse's 2022 School Safety Webinar Series will feature guest speakers from the CDC and the Mental Health Technology Transfer Center Network, who will provide an overview of COVID-19 guidance for K-12 schools and share resources to address the mental health impact on students, parents, teachers, and school personnel.

    Creating a Safe School and Community Environment for Youth, Part 2: Mitigating Microaggressions and Implicit Bias (Jan. 20, 2022) – Offered through DOJ's Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention's National Training and Technical Assistance Center, this webinar will cover how to create comprehensive anti-hate policies and programs that involve every part of the school community; help participants understand how to build a school climate where hateful acts are not tolerated; and explain how to mitigate microaggressions and identify implicit bias.

    Digital Forum on Prevention: Digital Ecosystems for Student Security, Safety, and Well-Being (Jan. 25 – 26, 2022) – Join the Department of Homeland Security's Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency's School Safety Task Force, and the Department of Education's Office of Educational Technology for two days of online panels and workshops. Attendees will learn about a public health-informed strategy to prevention, online safety, multidisciplinary approaches to student and educator well-being, and solutions that support prevention, including how to improve digital literacy and critical thinking skills and cybersecurity resources to build resilience.

    The Funding Process: First Steps to Applying, How to Prepare Now, and Other Considerations (Jan. 26, 2022) – In the second of two webinars that will prepare applicants for DOJ's BJA funding opportunities, attendees will learn what registrations are necessary to apply, how to navigate Grants.gov and JustGrants, and what resources are available for applicants, such as the Office of Justice Programs' Funding Resource Center.

    Data Privacy Week 2022: The Data Privacy Balancing Act – Stay Safe Online (Jan. 26, 2022) – This free, virtual event will convene data privacy experts from industry, government, academia, and non-profit for an afternoon of keynotes, panels, and discussions on current topics in data privacy.

    Helping Youth Navigate Dangers in the Digital Age (Feb. 17, 2022) – As part of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention's Preventing Youth Hate Crimes & Identity-Based Bullying Initiative Webinar Series, this webinar will inform attendees on how to help youth mitigate online dangers and build resiliency, as well as provide various tools and resources to identify misinformation.
