Family Dogs As Emotional Support Animals

There are many individuals that are part of living families but unfortunately suffer from mental disabilities. These individuals get all the love and support that they can have from their families, but having an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) with them as part of the household allows them to become independent and get a bit out of their comfort zone. Many such people living in a household tend to keep a dog as their ESA as they are versatile animals.

With an ESA letter for housing, the person suffering from mental illness can have the ESA pet dog as part of the household without any hassle from the landlord or any unfair ‘no-pet policy. ’

The best ESA dog breed option for a person part of a family is a breed that is known to be a family dog.

The family dogs are very sociable and are comfortable being around the people at home and those outside of it. They make for great social animals especially if trained for socializing early on in their life. The family dog is often quite energetic and loves to get involved in activities either inside the house or outside.

Other than entertaining its ESA handler the family dogs will also indulge each and every member of the house especially the kids and small children. If the ESA handler is a parent or lives with children then their safety also needs to be included in the decision over a dog breed. The family dogs are also very apt at being around small children, they love to play with them and engage them in various outdoor activities. However, try to bring in a dog that is not only protective of the small kids but also careful around them. The dog should know not to overpower the children and keep them out of harm’s way, while also refraining from any hard physical activities.

Top Family Dogs

Airedale Terrier

The Airedale terrier is the largest of the terrier group. Like all terriers, it sports a lavishing beard with folded ears. Terriers are great at outdoor activities and are the best type of breeds to have around if you live with your family in the countryside.

This breed is surprisingly loving of its family members and especially the younger members of the family. It is protective of its household and its members and can make a great guard dog as well.

Labrador Retriever

Labrador Retrievers are the most popular breed in America. The breed is an intelligent pet companion that is adept both indoors as it is outdoors. This breed was bred to be a hunting companion and therefore can perform a variety of tasks according to the training.

The emotional support animal letter must be recommended by an authorized psychological wellness subject matter expert. It is friendly with its companions and is well with children. It loves to play and can entertain and keep the little ones in the household busy. It doesn’t require extra grooming too and can be maintained with a weekly brushing among many other things.

Golden Retrievers

No list is complete without the Golden Retriever’ is something we hear from time to time. This is because of Its versatility and its all-round characteristics. This medium-sized dog is intelligent and easily trainable, more so as it has been used as a hunting companion, where it was used to retrieve waterfowl and other birds. Try to have your ESA letter for housing with you, which you can give to the property manager.

The breed is good with children and is careful around them. It also gets along with other pets in the house. You will need to provide your Golden Retriever with plenty of exercises, while you will need to groom its coat occasionally as it sheds seasonally, unlike the Labrador Retriever.
