In our K-12 classrooms, Black history lessons often skim the surface of the realities of the Black experience throughout the life of our country and the contributions that Black Americans have made. Black history is often hard to discuss, making teachers and administrators uncomfortable, but the erasure of these truths prevents Black students from understanding the role that their ancestors played in the creation, development, and success of America.
