Are you interested in the most up-to-date decisions regarding school cases in Tennessee as well as the rest of the nation? Do you want to know what laws were passed by the General Assembly in the last session? Then this training is for you! During this meeting participants are provided with a review of Tennessee and national school cases, the Attorney General Opinions, and new laws passed by the General Assembly.

The annual Summer Law Institute sponsored by TSBA, in conjunction with the Tennessee Council of School Board Attorneys, is a seminar held each summer for school board attorneys, board members and superintendents. We will be hosting two institutes, one in East Tennessee and the other in West Tennessee.

Major topics covered during this seminar include:
• Student Speech Under the First Amendment
• I.D.E.A. and the Latest from the U.S. Supreme Court
• Custody Orders and Their Effect on Schools
• Late Breaking Legal Issues
• Keeping Children Safe Online

TSBA will hold its annual Legislative Conference on Thursday, July 20, 2017 in Gatlinburg, prior to the Summer Law Institute.This legislative meeting is designed for local school board members and superintendents and will provide an opportunity for networking, information gathering, and training so that attendees can better serve their boards as leaders in legislative advocacy. A major part of the program will be a question and answer session with a member of the Tennessee General Assembly.

Gatlinburg: Superintendents will receive one and a half (1.5) days of CEO credit for this institute. Jackson: Superintendents will receive one (1) day of CEO credit for this institute.
